These very special chickens come from an ancestry of heirloom breeds and heritage birds that have better health than conventional livestock. Did you know chickens have been bred into two breeds, and they dominate 99% of the market? Cooks Venture offers another option.
These birds are a cross between a Heritage Transylvanian Naked Neck and a Heritage Delaware. They are bred to be more receptive to alternative diets that contain more than corn and soy.
Their feed contains higher levels of sunflower, oats, peas and non-GMO canola meal, all grown by their neighbor at Majestic Milling. The goal is to be able to grow sustainable blends in a rotating crop structure, stay tuned.
Cooks Venture farm is located in Northwest Arkansas where the birds have unrestricted pasture access their 800 acre farm. Located in the heart of the Mississippi River Basin where grain farmers lead in regenerative agricultural practices. With a lack of small local family farms raising chicken that can be processed in California, we've decided to work with Cooks Venture. Instead of shipping us the feed, they give us a superior chicken - proudly GAP Step 4 Certified.
Because of their unrestricted pasture access and pedigree, they grow to be stronger and more flavorful than other modern breeds. The difference is astounding.
